Welcome to the Not Just Health and Fitness podcast with Helena. I'll be talking all things health and fitness, but not just health and fitness. I'm expanding from the basics to encompass everything under the umbrella of living your best life, while sharing insights into my personal journey along the way. Let's get into today's topic. Hi, friends, today we're talking affirmations, and this is just a short episode to share what they are and why they're beneficial, leading into a short series of episodes that you'll be able to use for your own affirmations practice. If you haven't heard of or used this practice before, try to keep your mind open. While I explain, affirmations can come off as a bit woo-woo, but there is science to support their use. First, I'll explain what they are.
Speaker 1:Intentional affirmations are positive statements that, when you repeat them often, can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. What a lot of people don't realise is that we're speaking and thinking affirmations all the time anyway. The repetitive thoughts that we think about ourselves, our lives, what we deserve, are all affirming our reality. Automatic thoughts or statements like I'm just lazy, I could never do that, I'm not good with money. I always attract narcissists. It's easier for other people. I hate my body. These all create a reality for ourselves which make it hard to break negative patterns. The purpose of using positive affirmations as a practice is to break the habit of negative thinking and limiting beliefs, because those subconscious thoughts influence our reality and influence our daily actions. I'm sure most of you have heard the quote. I think, therefore, I am. When you make positive affirmations a regular practice, you're able to reprogram the way you think about yourself and that, over time, will influence your behaviours, which will influence how likely you are to achieve your goals. I'll be following up this episode with a small series of affirmation sets that you can use, depending on which fit the area of life that you're wanting to see positive change in. The first set is called Rise and Thrive and is a good set to start with to influence the mindset you start your day with. I'll also be doing a set on improving body image, financial abundance and one on relationships and inviting the right kind of love into your life.
Speaker 1:Part of what triggered me to do this small series is because I want to get back into doing affirmations myself. For a period of time last year, I was using affirmations regularly as part of my morning routine and I really was able to see and notice my view of myself and the world shifting to align with the affirmations that I'd been reciting when I first started. I found podcasts that spoke the affirmations for me, like the ones that I'll be sharing in this series, and after a while I started saving the ones that really spoke to me and how I wanted to feel in notes in my phone. Once I had a good list there, I recorded them into a voice note so I could hit them in my own voice, and I found that really useful. So that could be something that you could work towards, potentially, or you can always just use the ones that are pre-recorded. I found the sets that I listened to that seemed to have the most impact had space between each affirmation for me to be able to repeat the affirmation either out loud or in my head. So that's the way I'm going to structure them in this series and that's where I'll leave this episode Just a short one, and I hope you feel drawn to try this practice out for yourself.
Speaker 1:My recommendation here is to go set a daily reminder on your phone now to listen to one of these affirmation sets in the morning while you get ready for the day. A great way to enforce any good habit is to create accountability for yourself, so maybe share this with a friend so you can level up together. As always, helena, underscore, underscore slides where you can find me on Instagram if you have any feedback for me after trying them out or to inquire about health and fitness coaching.
